Low Porosity Hair and the Glow Kit: How to Get Growth & Strengthen Hair Oil to Actually Absorb (Not Sit on Top)
If you've ever applied a hair oil and watched it just sit there — on the surface, kind of greasy, not going anywhere — there's a good chance you have low porosity hair.
It's one of the most common things we hear from our community.
And the fix isn't a different product. It's timing and technique.
What Low Porosity Hair Actually Means
Your hair's porosity is about how tightly the cuticle lays flat.
Low porosity hair has cuticles that are sealed down tight — which is actually a sign of healthy, undamaged hair. The tradeoff is that moisture and oil have a harder time getting in.
You might recognize it because:
- Water beads up before it soaks in
- Your hair takes a long time to get fully wet in the shower
- Products build up quickly
- Hair feels dry even though you're conditioning
The cuticle isn't broken. It just needs a reason to open.
Why Heat Changes Everything
Warmth — even mild warmth — lifts the cuticle slightly and creates an opening for product to enter the strand instead of sitting on top of it.
This is the single most important thing to understand if you want the Growth & Strengthen Hair Oil to work the way it's supposed to.
Without heat, you're coating. With heat, you're conditioning.
Two Ways to Use Growth & Strengthen Hair Oil for Low Porosity Hair
Option 1: The warm pre-wash treatment
Apply the Growth & Strengthen Hair Oil to dry hair before you shower — section by section, scalp to ends, 3–5 drops max.
Put a plastic cap or warm towel over your hair and leave it for 15–20 minutes.
The warmth opens the cuticle. The oil goes in. When you shampoo, you're washing away the surface excess — not stripping what already absorbed.
Option 2: Apply on warm, freshly-washed hair
Right after you rinse your conditioner — while hair is still warm from the shower — apply 3 drops to lengths and ends before anything else.
The cuticle is slightly lifted from the warm water and more receptive than it'll be once your hair cools down. Don't wait until it's almost dry. That window closes fast.
How the Rest of the Glow Kit Fits In
Nourish & Strengthen Shampoo
For low porosity hair, cleanse thoroughly. Buildup happens fast when products sit on top instead of absorbing — a proper scalp-first cleanse with the Nourish & Strengthen Shampoo is what sets the whole routine up.
Nourish & Strengthen Conditioner
Apply the Nourish & Strengthen Conditioner in the shower while hair is still warm. Focus mid-shaft to ends. Even coverage with the steam working for you is what gets it absorbing — not piling more on.
What to Avoid
Don't apply the oil to completely dry, cold hair and expect it to absorb. It'll sit on the surface. That's not the product failing — that's just physics.
Don't overdo the amount. Three drops is the starting point. More oil doesn't mean more moisture for low porosity hair — it usually just means more buildup.
Don't skip clarifying every few weeks. Low porosity hair accumulates product faster than other types. A good cleanse resets everything.
The Short Version
Low porosity hair needs a warm entry point — a pre-wash treatment with heat, or application right after a warm rinse.
The Growth & Strengthen Hair Oil is lightweight enough that it won't sit heavy once it's in. But you have to give your cuticle a reason to let it through.
Once you crack the timing, the Glow Kit routine feels completely different.
