Founder Notes: Why I Started Mimane Glow (and the Routine That Brought My Hair Back)
My name is Xilenia Mena, and I started Mimane Glow because of what my hair went through before anyone ever saw the brand. Years of bleaching, color-treating, and keeping extensions in constantly left my hair thin, stressed, and nothing like it used to be. This is the full story behind why I built it and the exact routine I used to bring my hair back.
My Hair Didn't Feel Like Mine Anymore
For a while, all the color and styling was fun. I loved switching things up. But the damage added up faster than I expected.
My hair got thinner. It broke more easily. It lost the texture and fullness I'd always had. And the worst part was that nothing I tried seemed to actually help. I'd buy new products, try new routines, and end up in the same place a few weeks later.
I didn't want "better hair." I wanted my hair back. The way it used to feel, the way it used to move. That became the only goal.
The Blend That Changed Everything
After a lot of trial and error, I found a combination of oils and ingredients that made a real, noticeable difference.
Not overnight. Not in some dramatic before-and-after way.
But in the way that actually matters: my hair started to feel stronger. Less breakage when I detangled. More softness after wash day. The kind of change you notice in the mirror after a few weeks of staying consistent.
The core of that blend was jojoba oil, argan oil, babassu oil, pumpkin seed oil, and rosemary oil. Each one chosen for a specific reason, not just because it sounded good on a label. That blend became the Growth & Strengthen Hair Oil, and it's still the heart of everything Mimane Glow makes.
Why I Built Mimane Glow
When your hair isn't where you want it to be, it's not just about hair. It affects how you show up, how confident you feel, how you carry yourself every day.
I created Mimane Glow because I wanted other people to have access to what helped me. Clean ingredients. Simple routines that are realistic to stick to. Formulas made to support healthier, stronger hair over time.
This brand is personal. It's not a trend play or a quick fix. It's the kind of care I wish I had when my hair was at its worst.
The Routine That Brought My Hair Back
This is the routine I kept coming back to when my hair needed to reset. It's simple, consistent, and focused on treating hair gently, especially if you've dealt with damage from color, heat, or extensions.
1. Start with a clean foundation
If your scalp isn't healthy, your hair usually isn't either.
On wash day, I focus on cleansing thoroughly without being harsh. I'm not trying to strip my hair. I'm creating a clean base so everything I apply after can actually absorb and do its job. I use the Nourish & Strengthen Shampoo, let the lather work through my scalp, then rinse through the ends. Warm water, not hot.
2. Condition with intention
After washing, conditioner is the support step. This is where my hair feels softer, easier to work through, and less likely to snap.
I apply the Nourish & Strengthen Conditioner from mid-length to ends, let it sit for a few minutes, and detangle gently starting from the bottom. No rushing this step.
3. Oil as a ritual
Hair oiling was the step that made the biggest difference over time. But only when I used it consistently, not randomly.
Two ways I use it depending on the day:
Pre-wash (my favorite): Apply the oil to my scalp and ends, let it sit for at least 30 minutes, then shampoo as usual. This protects the hair during cleansing and keeps it from feeling stripped after.
Post-wash seal: A small amount on damp ends after conditioning. Focus on smoothing, not soaking. This locks in the moisture before my hair dries.
4. Protect what you're growing
This is the part most people skip, and it matters just as much as any product.
What helped me the most: less heat (and lower temperatures when I did use it), fewer tight styles that pull on the scalp, patience with detangling, and staying consistent instead of constantly switching products. Healthy hair is built through habits, not just what you put on it.
